In a shocking development, the Regina Police Service has classified the recent death of a man as a homicide after a body was discovered inside a vehicle. This finding follows an attempted traffic stop that ended with the vehicle fleeing from officers earlier in the morning.
On January 19, just before the clock struck 3 a.m., Regina police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street. However, the driver managed to evade capture, leading authorities on a brief chase. Shortly thereafter, the RPS Aerial Support Unit located the vehicle abandoned in the 1400 block of Princess Street. By the time police arrived, all individuals who had been in the vehicle had fled the scene on foot.
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officers stumbled upon the body of a deceased individual, prompting a deeper investigation that took them to a residential area on Dewdney Avenue, specifically the 3700 block. In light of these findings, both locations were secured, and additional support was called in, including experts from the Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit of the Regina Police Service. Currently, the circumstances surrounding this death are deemed suspicious, and it is important to note that the name of the victim has not been released pending further investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have information relevant to this case to come forward. If you can help, please reach out to the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or contact Regina Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
